Lastulevypohjia

Lastulevypohjia, often translated as particleboard flooring or chipboard underlayment, refers to a construction material used as a base or underlayment for flooring installations. It is manufactured from wood particles, chips, and shavings, bonded together with synthetic resins under heat and pressure. This process creates a dense, rigid board that offers a stable and even surface for subsequent flooring materials.

The primary function of lastulevypohjia is to provide a smooth and level substrate, especially over uneven subfloors. This is crucial for ensuring the longevity and proper appearance of finished flooring like laminate, vinyl, or carpet. It helps to distribute weight evenly and can also offer some degree of sound dampening and thermal insulation, although these properties are generally less pronounced than in specialized underlayment materials.

Lastulevypohjia is typically available in sheets of various thicknesses. Installation usually involves laying the boards directly onto the subfloor and securing them with screws or nails. Joints between the boards are often glued or taped to create a continuous surface. While cost-effective and providing a solid base, it is important to note that particleboard is susceptible to moisture damage and can swell if exposed to water. Therefore, it is not suitable for damp environments like bathrooms or basements unless specifically treated or protected.
