Lastschriftinstrumente
Lastschriftinstrumente, commonly known as direct debits, are a payment method where a customer authorizes a company or organization to automatically withdraw funds from their bank account on a recurring or one-time basis. This authorization is typically given in writing, often through a mandate. The process involves the payee (the company receiving the payment) initiating the transaction with their bank, which then requests the funds from the payer's bank.
There are two main types of direct debits: the SEPA Direct Debit (SDD) and older, country-specific schemes.
