Lasertähtäimet, also known as laser sights, are aiming devices that project a visible or infrared laser point onto a target. They are primarily used in conjunction with firearms and other projectile weapons to aid in aiming. The laser beam is typically aligned with the weapon's sights or barrel, allowing the user to quickly acquire a target by placing the laser dot on it.

There are two main types of laser sights: visible and infrared. Visible lasers emit a beam that is visible to the naked eye, commonly in red or green. Red lasers are more common due to lower cost and power consumption, while green lasers are brighter and more visible in daylight. Infrared lasers are invisible to the human eye and are designed for use with night vision devices.

Laser sights can be mounted on a variety of weapons, including handguns, rifles, and shotguns, typically attaching to a Picatinny or Weaver rail. Some are integrated directly into the weapon's design. They are powered by small batteries and are activated by a switch, which can be a button, a pressure pad, or a grip activation system.

The advantages of laser sights include faster target acquisition, especially in low-light conditions or during rapid firing. They can also be beneficial for individuals with reduced vision or those who have difficulty with traditional aiming methods. However, they are not a substitute for proper marksmanship training and can be affected by environmental factors such as dust, fog, or bright sunlight. Their effectiveness can also be limited by the range at which the laser dot remains clearly visible and precise.
