Langeks

Langeks is a fictional family of constructed languages created for speculative linguistics and worldbuilding. In this sense, Langeks refers to a group of related but distinct languages designed to explore principles of cross-cultural communication and predictable language design. Langeks is not an established term in real-world linguistics, but appears in science fiction, role-playing settings, and linguistic exercises as a tool for analysis.

Origin and design principles: The Langeks concept originated in fictional scholarship, most fully described in a widely cited worldbuilding corpus by the linguist Mara Dey in the early 2020s. The project aims to maximize ease of acquisition while preserving expressive capacity across different cultural contexts. Core features include an analytic grammar, regular syntax, and a shared core lexicon that spans major language families.

Grammar and phonology: Langeks are designed as analytic, subject–verb–object languages with minimal inflection. Nouns lack gender and case endings; verbs rely on function words and aspect markers. Pronouns and demonstratives are simple; adjectives follow nouns. Phonology favors common global inventories: roughly 5 vowels and a compact set of consonants with simple syllable structure. The standard orthography uses the Latin alphabet, with optional diacritics to reflect phonemic distinctions.
