Langebaanschaatsen, or long track speed skating, is a competitive ice skating sport. Athletes race on a 400-meter oval track. The sport is characterized by its speed and endurance. Skaters wear specialized long blades that allow for gliding over long distances.

Competitions typically involve pairs of skaters racing against the clock. One skater is in the inner lane and the other in the outer lane. They switch lanes at designated points on the track to ensure fairness. The goal is to achieve the fastest time over a set distance. Distances vary, including sprints like 500 meters and longer endurance races such as 5000 meters and 10000 meters for men, and 3000 meters and 5000 meters for women.

Langebaanschaatsen requires a combination of explosive power for acceleration and sustained stamina for longer races. Technique is also crucial, focusing on efficient strides, body positioning, and cornering. The sport is governed internationally by the International Skating Union (ISU). It is a popular sport in countries with a strong tradition of ice skating, particularly in the Netherlands, and is a prominent event in the Winter Olympic Games.
