Lamineret

Lamineret is an adjective used to describe a material that consists of layers bonded together by an adhesive or other bonding method. The term is used across different materials, with the common idea being that the final product derives its properties from the laminated structure rather than a single homogeneous layer.

Laminated glass is a widely known example. It comprises two or more glass layers held together by an interlayer, usually polyvinyl butyral (PVB) or another polymer. If the glass breaks, the interlayer keeps the shards from dispersing, improving safety. Laminated glass is used in vehicle windshields, skylights, and architectural glazing, and it can also provide acoustic and UV protection.

Laminated wood refers to engineered wood products created by bonding thin veneers or lumber strips. Common forms include plywood (layers of veneer), laminated veneer lumber (LVL), and glued-laminated timber (glulam). These products offer greater strength, dimensional stability, and design flexibility compared with solid wood, and they are used in structural elements, flooring, and furniture.

Other materials, such as metals and composites, can also be laminated. The lamination process often involves heat, pressure, and specific adhesives, chosen for compatibility with the materials and the intended use. Interlayers, coatings, and surface treatments may further tailor properties such as strength, transparency, or insulation.

Advantages of lamination include increased strength, safety, durability, and sometimes improved insulation or acoustic performance. Disadvantages can include higher cost, manufacturing complexity, and potential delamination if moisture, heat, or mechanical damage compromise the bond. Standards and building codes govern the production and use of laminated products.
