LCDnäytöissä
LCDnäytöissä, or Liquid Crystal Display, are a type of flat panel display technology that utilizes the light-modulating properties of liquid crystals. These crystals do not emit light directly but rather block or allow light to pass through from a backlight. An LCD screen is composed of several layers, including a backlight, polarizers, a liquid crystal layer, and color filters. The backlight, typically an LED array in modern devices, provides the illumination. The liquid crystals themselves are sandwiched between two polarizing filters. When an electric current is applied to the liquid crystals, their molecular orientation changes, affecting how they interact with polarized light. This change in orientation either allows light to pass through or blocks it, creating the dark and light pixels that form an image. Color is achieved by adding a color filter layer, where each pixel is further divided into red, green, and blue subpixels. By controlling the amount of light that passes through each subpixel, a wide spectrum of colors can be produced. LCD technology is widely used in televisions, computer monitors, smartphones, tablets, and many other electronic devices due to its relatively low cost, energy efficiency, and ability to produce sharp images.
