It is used to distinguish styles that emphasize scene-based play, environmental storytelling, props and costumes, and dramaturgical structure from more rules-heavy or combat-centric formats.

Core elements: LARPstyle emphasizes operative safety and consent, with explicit pre-game agreements, lines and veils, and opt-in scenes. It also centers on narrative coherence: consistent world rules, character arcs, and consequences that reflect the game’s internal logic. Practical techniques include modular scenario design, use of immersive setting, sound and lighting cues, and curated props.

Techniques and tools: Character creation with backstory, safety frameworks (lines and veils, consent, X-card or equivalent), choreographed stage combat, mutable scenes, dynamic pacing, post-game debrief, and community feedback.
