Löschtest

Löschtest is a German term that translates to "deletion test" or "erasure test." It refers to a process designed to verify the secure and complete removal of data from a storage medium. This is crucial in contexts where data privacy and security are paramount, such as in businesses handling sensitive customer information or in government agencies.

The primary objective of a löschtest is to ensure that data is not recoverable after it has been marked for deletion. Standard deletion methods in operating systems often only remove the pointer to the data, leaving the actual data intact until it is overwritten by new information. A löschtest goes beyond this by employing specialized software or techniques to overwrite the data multiple times with random patterns, making it virtually impossible to reconstruct the original information.
