Külgstabiilsus

Külgstabiilsus refers to a vehicle's ability to resist rolling over, particularly during cornering or when subjected to external forces like wind. It is a critical aspect of vehicle safety, influencing how a car handles and its propensity to tip.

Several factors contribute to a vehicle's külgstabiilsus. The vehicle's center of gravity plays a significant role; a lower center of gravity generally enhances stability. The track width, which is the distance between the wheels on the same axle, also affects stability; a wider track provides a broader base of support. The suspension system's design and stiffness are crucial, as they influence how the vehicle's body rolls during maneuvers. The tires' grip and sidewall stiffness also contribute, as they transmit forces to the road and resist deformation.

When a vehicle corners, centrifugal force acts outwards, creating a moment that tends to roll the vehicle. The vehicle's mass, speed, and the radius of the turn all influence the magnitude of this force. A well-designed vehicle will have sufficient stability to counteract this force without excessive body roll or the risk of tipping.
