Køretøjsladesystem, often referred to as an EV charging system, encompasses the technology and infrastructure required to replenish the battery of an electric vehicle (EV). This includes the onboard charger within the vehicle itself, as well as the external charging stations and the power delivery network connecting them.

Charging systems can be broadly categorized into two main types: AC charging and DC fast charging. AC charging, also known as Level 1 and Level 2 charging, uses alternating current from the grid. Level 1 typically uses a standard household outlet, offering a slow charging rate. Level 2 utilizes a dedicated charging station and a higher amperage, providing a more substantial charge over several hours. DC fast charging, or Level 3 charging, converts AC power to direct current externally and delivers it directly to the vehicle's battery, enabling significantly faster charging times, often measured in minutes rather than hours.

The components of a køretøjsladesystem involve the charging cable, which connects the vehicle to the charging station, and the charging connector. Different regions and vehicle manufacturers utilize various connector standards, such as Type 1 (J1772), Type 2 (Mennekes), CCS (Combined Charging System), and CHAdeMO. The charging station itself houses the necessary electronics for power conversion, communication with the vehicle, and safety mechanisms. The power grid plays a crucial role, providing the electricity that fuels these charging systems. Smart charging technologies are increasingly integrated, allowing for optimized charging based on grid load, electricity prices, and user preferences.
