Kísérfehérjék, also known as chaperone proteins, are a group of proteins found in all living organisms that assist in the correct folding, assembly, and transport of other proteins. They do not become part of the final functional structure of the protein they are assisting. Chaperones work by binding to unfolded or misfolded polypeptide chains, preventing aggregation and promoting proper folding pathways. This process is crucial for maintaining cellular homeostasis and preventing the accumulation of damaged or non-functional proteins, which can lead to disease.

The function of kísérfehérjék is diverse and essential for cellular life.
