Käänteistranskriptiini refers to the process of reverse transcription, a fundamental biological mechanism involving the synthesis of DNA from an RNA template. This process is primarily carried out by an enzyme called reverse transcriptase. In nature, reverse transcription is most famously associated with retroviruses, such as HIV. These viruses utilize reverse transcriptase to convert their RNA genome into a DNA copy. This DNA copy can then be integrated into the host cell's genome, allowing for viral replication.
