Käyttöhevosia is a Finnish term referring to draft horses. These animals are historically bred and utilized for heavy work such as plowing fields, pulling carts, logging, and other agricultural and industrial tasks. Unlike lighter breeds known for speed or agility, draft horses are characterized by their immense size, strength, and calm temperament. Their muscular build and substantial bone structure enable them to exert significant pulling power.

Various draft breeds have been used in Finland, including indigenous breeds like the Finnhorse, which, while versatile, can also be utilized for heavier tasks, and imported breeds that were specifically selected for their draft capabilities. These imported breeds often included Shire, Clydesdale, and Belgian draft horses. The development and use of draft horses were crucial for Finnish agriculture and economy for centuries, especially before the widespread mechanization of farming and transportation.

While their role has diminished with modern machinery, draft horses are still appreciated today for their heritage value, in historical reenactments, and in niche agricultural or forestry operations where their power and maneuverability in certain terrains are advantageous. Some individuals also maintain draft horse breeds for recreational riding and driving, valuing their gentle nature and impressive presence.
