Käsidynamometer

A Käsidynamometer, often shortened to dynamometer, is a device used to measure the maximum voluntary grip strength of a person's hand. It is a common tool in sports medicine, rehabilitation, and occupational therapy. The instrument typically consists of a handle that the individual squeezes with their hand. As force is applied, the dynamometer registers the peak pressure exerted.

There are several types of käsidynamometer. Digital models display the measurement electronically, offering precise readings and often storing data for tracking progress. Mechanical models use a spring-loaded mechanism and a needle to indicate the force on a calibrated dial. Regardless of the type, the measurement procedure is generally standardized. The individual is usually seated with their arm relaxed at their side, and the device is squeezed with maximal effort for a few seconds. Multiple trials are often performed to ensure accuracy and consistency.

Käsidynamometer measurements can be used to assess overall hand and forearm strength, diagnose conditions that affect grip, and monitor recovery from injuries or surgeries affecting the hand or arm. They are also used in research to study human strength and performance. Normative data exists for different age groups and genders, allowing for comparisons to be made.
