Käigupumpasid

Käigupumpasid is the Estonian term for gear pumps. Gear pumps are a type of positive displacement pump that uses the meshing of gears to pump fluid. They are widely used in various applications due to their simplicity, reliability, and relatively low cost.

There are two main types of gear pumps: external and internal. External gear pumps consist of two meshing gears that rotate within a housing. As the gears rotate, they create expanding cavities on the suction side, drawing fluid into the pump. The fluid is then trapped between the gear teeth and the housing and is pushed towards the discharge port. Internal gear pumps have one gear rotating inside another, larger gear. The principle of operation is similar, with the meshing teeth creating chambers that transport the fluid from the inlet to the outlet.

Gear pumps are known for their ability to handle a wide range of fluids, including viscous liquids, oils, and hydraulic fluids. They are often used in lubrication systems, fuel pumps, hydraulic power units, and chemical processing. Their compact size and ability to generate high pressures make them suitable for many industrial and automotive applications. Maintenance is generally straightforward, and their robust construction contributes to a long service life. The flow rate of a gear pump is directly proportional to its speed of rotation, offering predictable performance.
