Kynäkyselyt

Kynäkyselyt, a Finnish term roughly translating to "pen surveys" or "pencil surveys," refers to a method of data collection that utilizes paper-based questionnaires. These surveys are designed to be filled out by respondents using a pen or pencil. Historically, kynäkyselyt were a dominant form of survey research before the widespread adoption of digital technologies.

The process typically involves distributing questionnaires to a target audience, either in person or by mail. Respondents then complete the survey independently. Once collected, the data is usually transferred to a digital format for analysis, often through manual data entry or optical mark recognition (OMR) technology, which can read marked responses.

While digital surveys have become more prevalent due to their speed, cost-effectiveness, and ease of distribution, kynäkyselyt still hold relevance in certain contexts. They can be particularly useful when internet access is limited, for populations less familiar with digital interfaces, or in situations where a tangible survey provides a sense of security or familiarity.
