Kylmäliitoksella

Kylmäliitoksella is a Finnish term that translates to "cold joint" or "cold connection" in English. It refers to a type of defect that can occur in materials, particularly in concrete, welding, and soldering. A kylmäliitos happens when a new layer of material is applied to an existing surface that has cooled down significantly, or when two materials are joined without proper preparation or sufficient heat to create a strong, cohesive bond.

In concrete construction, a kylmäliitos can form when fresh concrete is poured against a previously hardened concrete surface without adequate measures to ensure bonding, such as cleaning and roughening the surface or using bonding agents. This can lead to a weak point in the structure, susceptible to cracking and water infiltration.

In welding, a kylmäliitos, often called a cold lap or lack of fusion, occurs when the molten metal from the new weld bead does not properly fuse with the base metal or a previous weld pass. This results in a flawed joint that lacks the intended structural integrity. Similarly, in soldering, a cold joint is a poorly soldered connection where the solder has not flowed properly to create an electrical and mechanical bond between the components. This is often characterized by a dull, grainy appearance rather than a smooth, shiny finish. Recognizing and preventing kylmäliitos is crucial for ensuring the durability and performance of constructed elements and manufactured goods.
