Kuumamuoto

Kuumamuoto is a Finnish term that translates to "hot-formed" or "heat-formed." It refers to a manufacturing process where materials, typically metals or plastics, are heated to a specific temperature and then shaped under pressure. This process allows for greater malleability and ductility, enabling the material to be formed into complex geometries that might be difficult or impossible to achieve through cold working.

The heating temperature is crucial and depends on the material's properties. For metals, this usually involves temperatures above their recrystallization point, which softens the material and reduces its resistance to deformation. For plastics, it means heating them to their glass transition temperature or melting point, making them pliable. Once heated, the material is subjected to forces, often using dies, molds, or presses, to achieve the desired shape.

Hot forming is used in a wide range of industries. In metallurgy, it's common for forging, rolling, and extrusion processes, creating components for automotive, aerospace, and heavy machinery sectors. In plastics manufacturing, hot forming is employed for thermoforming, creating products like packaging, automotive interiors, and recreational equipment.
