Kovetusta

Kovetusta is a Finnish term used in technical contexts to denote the process by which a material becomes hard, stiff, or set. Derived from the verb kovetua, meaning to harden or cure, the noun kovetusta describes the act or period of hardening across a range of materials and applications.

It is commonly used in dentistry to refer to curing of resin-based composites and luting agents, which can proceed through chemical activation or light-induced polymerization. In construction and civil engineering, kovetusta describes the curing of concrete and other cementitious mixtures when they react with water to gain strength and durability. In polymer processing, adhesives and cast polymers undergo kovetusta through cross-linking and chain-growth reactions.

In metalworking and materials science, kovetusta can refer to the hardening or setting of materials through heat treatment, aging, or phase transformations.
