Korkeakovuus

Korkeakovuus is a fictional concept used in Finnish-language speculative fiction and educational contexts to describe the imagined property of a material, structure, or system to preserve stability as height increases. The term blends korkea (high) and kovuus (hardness or firmness) to convey high-strength behavior in elevated environments.

In its engineering sense, korkeakovuus is treated as a dimensionless index, K, indicating how well a component resists deformation and failure under simultaneous vertical load and height-related stresses such as wind, buoyancy, temperature gradients, and gravitational moments. A higher K implies greater resilience at height; a lower K implies vulnerability.

Applications appear in classroom simulations, design exercises for tall buildings, towers, and space habitats, and in fiction where the resilience of cities or habitats at high altitude is central to the plot or argument. It is not an officially standardized metric; its definitions and calculation methods vary by author or course.
