Kopieringsret

Kopieringsret, often translated as copyright, is a legal right granted to the creator of original works of authorship. This includes literary, dramatic, musical, and certain other intellectual works. The purpose of copyright is to protect the rights of creators and to encourage the creation of new works by granting them exclusive rights for a limited period.

In Denmark, the Copyright Act (Ophavsretsloven) governs these rights. It stipulates that copyright automatically arises upon creation of a work and does not require registration. The rights typically include the exclusive right to reproduce the work, to make it available to the public, and to create derivative works. These rights are generally held by the author for their lifetime plus 70 years.

Copyright protection extends to a wide range of creative expressions, such as books, music, films, software, and visual arts. It does not protect ideas, facts, or methods of operation, but rather the particular way in which these are expressed. Infringement occurs when someone uses a copyrighted work without permission in a way that violates the rights of the copyright holder.

There are exceptions and limitations to copyright, such as provisions for private copying for personal use, educational purposes, or for quotation under certain conditions. These exceptions aim to balance the rights of creators with the public interest in accessing and utilizing creative works.
