Koostetehasid

Koostetehasid are manufacturing facilities where components supplied by suppliers are assembled into finished products or larger subassemblies. The Estonian word kooste means assembly or compilation, and tehas means factory, so the term describes plants dedicated to combining parts into a final product or configurable variants within a production line.

Typical operations include receiving parts, subassembly, final assembly, testing and calibration, quality assurance, packaging, labeling, and shipping. They may specialize in electronics, automotive components, machinery, or consumer goods, and often work as contract manufacturers for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Koostetehasid can be independent facilities or part of a larger manufacturing complex. They usually rely on standardized interfaces, automation, and process controls, and they emphasize efficiency and quality. They are common in industries with modular designs and global supply chains, where subcomponents are produced separately and then brought together for final assembly.

In modern manufacturing, assembly plants are influenced by trends such as nearshoring, outsourcing, and lean production. They contribute to regional employment and export activity, and operate under regulatory standards for safety, environmental impact, and product compliance.
