Koondists are adherents of Koondism, a fictional cultural-religious movement described in speculative fiction and thought experiments. It is not a real-world, recognized belief system. In the fictional context, koondists emphasize communal belonging, ecological stewardship, and nonviolent dispute resolution. The name is linked to a fictional Koondi word meaning “together.”

Origins and development are depicted as a response to urban fragmentation and resource stress in a hypothetical late-20th-century setting. Small, autonomous communities form around shared land, water, and energy resources, often organized around consensus governance or rotating councils. Mutual aid, cooperative labor, and simple living are emphasized as practical expressions of shared values.

Beliefs and practices center on mutual aid, shared ownership of essentials, and respect for ecosystems. Ritual life often includes seasonal harvest ceremonies, community meals, and restorative approaches to conflict. Education and child-rearing stress cooperation, empathy, and long-term communal resilience. Spiritual or ethical dimensions are typically framed around harmony with the land and with one another rather than doctrinal dogma.

Social structure and culture tend to be decentralized, with networks of communes rather than a single centralized institution. Ceremonial life focuses on communal meals, rituals of harvest, and decision-making by consensus. In some depictions, koondists use a fictional language or ceremonial register called Koondish during rites, alongside the everyday language of their setting.

Geography and reception: In fiction, koondist communities are described in temperate regions and may appear on space colonies in some narratives. Critics within those works discuss utopian ideals, practical challenges, and the portrayal of communal life, often framing koondism as a device to explore sustainability, cooperation, and social experimentation.
