Koolies
The Koolie is a breed of sheepdog originating in Australia. Also known as the Australian Koolie or virtually synonymous with the "Collie" (a term often used generically for sheepdogs in Australia), the Koolie is recognized for its intelligence, agility, and strong herding instincts. These dogs are known for their distinctive merle coat patterns, which can range from blue merle to red merle, often with distinct markings. Koolies are typically medium to large in size with a muscular build and a keen, alert expression. They are highly trainable and excel in various canine activities, including sheepdog trials, agility, and obedience. Their temperament is generally described as loyal, energetic, and devoted to their families. Koolies are not typically aggressive but possess a protective nature. Due to their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation, they are best suited for active households that can provide ample exercise and training. They are known for their versatility and have been used for generations to manage livestock on farms and stations across Australia.
