Konfigurationer

Konfigurationer refer to the arrangements and settings that determine how a system operates. In information technology and engineering, the term covers hardware configurations (the composition and interconnections of components), software configurations (parameters, options, and modules), and network configurations (addresses, routing rules, and security policies).

Configuration management is the discipline that governs these elements throughout the system lifecycle. It involves identifying configuration items, documenting their characteristics, and controlling changes to them. A configuration baseline records an approved state, while change control, versioning, and auditing provide traceability and accountability.

Configurations are typically stored as files or templates. Common formats include YAML, JSON, INI, and XML, which describe parameters and dependencies. Modern practice often uses infrastructure as code (IaC) and declarative configuration management to automate provisioning and ensure consistency across environments.

Effective configuration management supports reproducibility, faster incident analysis, and compliance with policies. Challenges include configuration drift, scale, security risks from misconfigurations, and maintaining an accurate inventory of configuration items in a CMDB (configuration management database).
