Kondrotsüütide are mature chondrocytes, which are the cells responsible for synthesizing and maintaining the cartilaginous matrix in cartilage. They are found in the lacunae, small cavities within the cartilage. Kondrotsüütide are derived from chondroblasts, which are the less mature, actively dividing cells. As chondroblasts differentiate, they become surrounded by the extracellular matrix they produce, eventually becoming trapped in lacunae and transforming into kondrotsüütide.
