Kondrotsüütide

Kondrotsüütide are mature chondrocytes, which are the cells responsible for synthesizing and maintaining the cartilaginous matrix in cartilage. They are found in the lacunae, small cavities within the cartilage. Kondrotsüütide are derived from chondroblasts, which are the less mature, actively dividing cells. As chondroblasts differentiate, they become surrounded by the extracellular matrix they produce, eventually becoming trapped in lacunae and transforming into kondrotsüütide.

These cells are relatively quiescent, meaning they have a low metabolic rate. However, they are essential for the structural integrity and function of cartilage. Kondrotsüütide produce and secrete various components of the cartilage matrix, including collagen fibers, proteoglycans (such as aggrecan), and glycoproteins. These components provide cartilage with its tensile strength, compressive resistance, and ability to withstand mechanical stress.

The metabolic activity of kondrotsüütide is influenced by their environment. They rely on diffusion from surrounding tissues or synovial fluid for nutrients and oxygen, as cartilage is avascular. This limited nutrient supply contributes to their slow metabolism and limited regenerative capacity. If damaged, cartilage has a poor ability to repair itself, often leading to chronic conditions like osteoarthritis. The health and function of kondrotsüütide are therefore critical for joint health and overall skeletal mobility.
