Komsomolsk-on-Amur, often referred to simply as Komsomolsk, is a city in the Khabarovsk Krai of Russia. It is situated on the right bank of the Amur River, approximately 1,200 kilometers east of Moscow. The city was founded in 1932 as a settlement for the construction of the Komsomolsk Hydroelectric Power Station, which was completed in 1937. The name "Komsomolsk" is derived from the Komsomol, the youth wing of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
