Komponentelisten

Komponentelisten, often referred to as a component list or bill of materials in Norwegian contexts, is a document that enumerates all components required to build a product, subsystem, or software. It serves as a central reference across design, procurement, production, and maintenance, helping teams track what is needed and how it fits into the overall system.

A komponentelisten typically includes fields such as item number, component name, part number, technical specification, quantity, unit, supplier or manufacturer, lead time, unit cost, and notes or revision information. In hardware contexts, it may also record footprints, tolerances, materials, and test requirements. For software, the list can cover libraries, modules, licenses, versions, and dependencies.

The list is created early in the development process and evolves with design changes. It supports procurement by identifying required parts, budgeting, and supplier selection, and it enables manufacturing and assembly through accurate material planning. It also aids maintenance and future changes by providing traceability and a clear history of revisions, substitutions, and obsolescence management.

Komponentelisten is closely related to, and sometimes integrated with, broader practices such as the bill of materials (BOM), configuration management, and product lifecycle management. It differs from a simple parts inventory by emphasizing the specific composition and configuration of a given product.
