Kompiloitu

Kompiloitu is a Finnish adjective used to describe software or code that has undergone compilation, meaning it has been translated from source code into machine code or another executable form by a compiler. In software distribution and development, a kompiloitu program is typically delivered as binaries or executables rather than as source code.

Kompilointi refers to the process of compilation. The verb kompiloida is a loanword from English compile, and the past participle kompiloitu denotes the result of that process. The corresponding noun is kompiloiti, or more commonly kompilaatio or kompilointi when referring to the act itself. In everyday IT language, kompiloitu is widely understood to indicate that a usable, runnable artifact has been produced from source code.

In practice, you will find phrases such as kompiloitu versio or kompiloitu ohjelmisto, meaning binaries ready for execution on a specific platform (for example Windows, macOS, or Linux). Distribution contexts may offer both the lähdekoodi (source code) and a kompiloitu binary. The term contrasts with lähdekoodi and with forms that are interpreted rather than compiled; it can also imply optimizations performed by the compiler and compatibility with a target architecture.

Kompiloitu is most common in technical writing and informal programmer speech. In more formal documentation, writers might prefer phrasing such as “käännetty binääri” or simply “binääri” to refer to the compiled artifact.
