Kolostrumphase

Kolostrumphase refers to the initial period after childbirth during which the mother produces colostrum. This thick, yellowish fluid is the first milk produced by the mammary glands and is distinct from mature breast milk. Colostrum is rich in antibodies, immune factors, and nutrients that are crucial for the newborn's health and development. It is often referred to as "liquid gold" due to its vital role in establishing the infant's immune system and providing essential nourishment.

The production of colostrum typically begins in the later stages of pregnancy and continues for the first few days after birth, usually up to about three to five days. During this phase, the infant's stomach is very small, and the small volume of colostrum is perfectly suited to its needs. The high concentration of antibodies in colostrum helps protect the baby from infections and other illnesses, acting as a natural immunization. It also contains growth factors that promote the development of the infant's gastrointestinal tract.

The transition from colostrum to mature breast milk is a gradual process. As the baby continues to nurse and the mother's body responds to hormonal changes, the composition and volume of milk will change.
