Kollatähniks

Kollatähniks, also known as macular degeneration, is a common eye condition that affects vision. It primarily impacts the macula, the small, central part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision needed for reading, driving, and recognizing faces. While it does not cause complete blindness, it can significantly impair central vision.

There are two main types of kollatähniks: dry and wet. Dry kollatähniks is more common and develops gradually. It occurs when small yellow deposits called drusen accumulate under the macula, causing it to thin and break down. Vision loss in dry kollatähniks is usually slow and may involve blurred or distorted vision. Wet kollatähniks is less common but often leads to more rapid and severe vision loss. It happens when abnormal blood vessels grow under the macula and leak fluid or blood. This leakage can cause rapid swelling and damage to the macula.

Risk factors for developing kollatähniks include age, family history, smoking, and certain genetic predispositions. While there is no cure for kollatähniks, treatments are available to slow its progression and manage its effects. For dry kollatähniks, certain dietary supplements containing vitamins and minerals have shown promise in reducing the risk of progression to the advanced stages. For wet kollatähniks, treatments like anti-VEGF injections can help stop abnormal blood vessel growth and leakage. Regular eye check-ups are crucial for early detection and management of this condition.
