Kokiris

Kokiris are a fictional race featured in Nintendo's Legend of Zelda video game series. They are characterized by their distinctive green pointed ears, which are often described as resembling those of fairies or elves. Kokiris are the native inhabitants of the Kokiri Forest, a mystical woodland located within the Hyrule Kingdom. This forest serves as a sacred place, protected by the Great Deku Tree, the guardian spirit of the forest.

The Kokiris are typically portrayed as children who never grow old. They wear green tunics and are often seen carrying slingshots, which are their primary means of defense and hunting. They live a peaceful, communal life, playing and interacting with the forest creatures. A key aspect of Kokiri society is the belief that only those who have received a fairy companion are true Kokiri. Those without a fairy are considered outsiders, unable to leave the confines of the Kokiri Forest.

Throughout the Legend of Zelda series, particularly in Ocarina of Time, the player character, Link, is raised as a Kokiri. However, Link is unique among them as he is the only one without a fairy until Navi arrives. This distinction often sets him apart and foreshadows his destiny as a hero. The Kokiri are generally depicted as friendly and playful, though they can be wary of strangers. Their connection to the forest is profound, and they are deeply spiritual, revering the Great Deku Tree as their father and protector.
