Koherenciára is a Hungarian term that translates to coherence in English. It denotes the property of a system where its constituent parts maintain a fixed or predictable phase relationship. The concept is central to many scientific disciplines, particularly physics and engineering, where the precise arrangement of waves or signals matters.

In physics, coherence describes the correlation between waves or field components over space and time. Coherent light, for example, has a stable phase difference between its wavefronts, allowing constructive interference to be observed in experiments such as double‑slit interference. Quantum coherence extends this idea to microscopic systems, where particles such as electrons or photons exist in superposition until measured, yielding interference patterns that reveal underlying wave‑like behavior.

Mathematically, coherence is often quantified using correlation functions. The first‑order spatial coherence function measures how well two points in a wavefront correlate, while the second‑order temporal correlation function captures the relationship between amplitudes at different times.
