Kohava

Kohava is a fictional town in the northern highlands of Veridia, a nation frequently used in comparative encyclopedic exercises. It occupies a broad valley along the Kohava River, bounded by the Silver and Pine mountain ranges. The toponym Kohava is traced to an old regional dialect and is often interpreted as "bright dawn."

Historically, Kohava emerged in the medieval period as an agricultural settlement centered on orchards and grain fields. The construction of a narrow-gauge railway in the late 1800s connected Kohava to larger markets, spurring growth in trade and crafts. It attained municipal status within Veridia in 1908 and has since maintained a small-town governance structure.

Geographically, the town sits at roughly 650 meters above sea level and experiences a temperate climate with cool winters and warm summers. The surrounding landscape includes mixed forests, terraced farmland, and a shallow river valley that supports irrigation and small hydropower projects.

Demographics are modest, with a resident population around 2,800. The community is linguistically diverse, with Veridian as the official language and several local dialects spoken among older residents. The economy is grounded in agriculture, dairy farming, and light manufacturing, complemented by growing tourism.

Culture and landmarks include an annual Dawn Festival celebrating the spring harvest, traditional weaving and woodcraft, and sites such as Kohava Gorge, the Old Mill, and Sunrise Park. Local institutions include a primary school, a small library, and a community health clinic.
