Klimaprofilen

Klimaprofilen, literally “the climate profile” in Swedish, is a term used to describe a structured compilation of climate-related information for a defined subject, such as a region, a city, an organization, or a population group. The profile aims to present a concise, comparable view of past climate, present exposures, and future risks to support planning and communication in governance, business, and civil society.

A Klimaprofilen usually combines historical observations, current climate conditions, and scenario-based projections. It often covers variables such as temperature, precipitation, extreme weather events, drought, heat waves, and sea-level rise, along with indicators of vulnerability, exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity. Methods may include statistical analysis of observational data, downscaling of global climate models, and risk assessment frameworks that translate climate information into potential impacts and adaptation options. Uncertainty and scenario dependence are explicitly acknowledged.

Applications are diverse: urban and regional planning, infrastructure design, public health planning, agriculture and food security, and climate communication. The profiles can be produced by government agencies, research organizations, municipalities, or private consultants, and are often hosted as open data to enable reuse and comparison.
