Kivettyvätsana
Kivettyvätsana, also known as petrified wood or fossilized wood, is a type of fossil where the organic material of a tree or tree-like plant has been replaced with minerals, typically silica, over a long period. This process, called permineralization, occurs when groundwater rich in dissolved minerals seeps into the wood's cells. As the water evaporates, the minerals precipitate and fill the cellular structure, effectively creating a stone replica of the original wood.
The original organic material is usually replaced molecule by molecule. The minerals that replace the wood
Kivettyvätsana formations are found in various geological settings and can date back to the Devonian period.
