Kitchensand

Kitchensand is not a term with a single, widely recognized definition in English-language sources. It may appear as a compound noun or as two words, and its meaning depends on context.

In historical or rural cleaning practices, "kitchen sand" has referred to coarse sand used as an abrasive for scrubbing metal cookware and other domestic items, particularly before modern detergents and scouring powders became common. Modern kitchen cleaning generally avoids sand because of the risk of scratching surfaces and leaving particulates behind; safer abrasives and non-scratch scrubbers are preferred.
