Kitaran is a fictional city and administrative center in the western region of Narith, a nation used here as a setting for an encyclopedic entry. The name Kitaran is derived from the Kita River and the local term ran, meaning "city" or "settlement." The city lies along the Kita River and experiences a temperate climate with wet winters and warm summers.

History: Kitaran was founded in the 12th century by settlers from the surrounding highlands and soon developed as a trading post along river routes. It grew under successive regional powers and became the capital of the Kita district in the 19th century before administrative reforms shifted county seats.

Geography and infrastructure: The city covers a compact area with an older medieval core surrounding a fortress district, and a newer administrative and residential zone to the south.
