Keskivetoinen
Keskivetoinen is a term used in the automotive industry to describe a vehicle with a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration, where the engine is positioned transversely in the vehicle. This layout is also known as rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive. The term "keskivetoinen" translates from Finnish to "middle-driven," which is a bit of a misnomer as the engine is not in the middle but at the rear. This configuration is popular in sports cars and some luxury vehicles due to its balance of performance and handling. The engine's position at the rear allows for a lower center of gravity, which can improve handling and stability. However, it also means that the engine is further away from the driver, which can affect the driving experience. The term "keskivetoinen" is not widely used outside of Finland and the Nordic countries, where it is more commonly referred to as "rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive."
