Keramikktyper refers to the classification of ceramic materials based on their composition, manufacturing processes, and intended applications. Ceramics are broadly categorized into traditional ceramics and advanced ceramics. Traditional ceramics, often referred to as clay-based ceramics, include earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain. Earthenware is fired at lower temperatures and remains porous, making it suitable for decorative items and unglazed pottery. Stoneware is fired at higher temperatures than earthenware, resulting in a denser, less porous, and more durable material, commonly used for tableware and cookware. Porcelain is fired at the highest temperatures among traditional ceramics, yielding a vitrified, non-porous, strong, and white material used in fine china, electrical insulators, and sanitary ware.

Advanced ceramics, also known as technical or engineering ceramics, are refined and engineered for specific high-performance properties. These include materials like alumina, zirconia, silicon carbide, and silicon nitride. Alumina is known for its hardness and electrical insulating properties, used in grinding media, wear-resistant parts, and spark plug insulators. Zirconia offers exceptional toughness and strength, making it suitable for cutting tools, dental implants, and thermal barrier coatings. Silicon carbide and silicon nitride are highly resistant to heat and wear, finding applications in components for engines, heat exchangers, and abrasives. The distinction between these keramikktyper allows for the selection of the most appropriate material for a given task, considering factors such as strength, heat resistance, chemical inertness, and electrical properties.
