Keerutavad

Keerutavad, also known as *Kirutavadu* or *Kirutavadu*, refers to a traditional South Indian folk dance form primarily practiced in the state of Tamil Nadu. The term "keerutavad" translates roughly to "dance of the village" or "village dance," reflecting its rural origins and communal nature. This dance is deeply rooted in agricultural cycles and seasonal festivities, often performed during harvest celebrations, temple festivals, and other community gatherings.

Keerutavad is characterized by its lively, rhythmic movements, which are accompanied by traditional instruments such as the *thavil* (a double-headed drum), *nagaswaram* (a wind instrument), and *kombu* (a stringed instrument). The dance typically involves both men and women, who move in a circular or linear formation, creating a sense of unity and collective participation. Costumes are simple, often featuring vibrant colors and traditional attire like *veshti* (dhotis) for men and *sari* or *langa voni* (a wrap-around skirt) for women, sometimes adorned with floral garlands.
