Katkeiluuns

Katkeiluuns, also known as necklace shells, are a type of marine shell that belongs to the species Margarites helicoides. They are a widely distributed species found in temperate and tropical waters around the world, typically living in areas with a sandy or muddy seafloor.

The shells of katkeiluuns are characteristically elongated and helmet-shaped, with a narrow neck and a pointed apex. They can grow up to 20 centimeters in length, although most specimens are much smaller, typically ranging from 5 to 10 centimeters. The shells are usually found in a range of colors, including white, yellow, brown, and black, often with intricate patterns and markings.

Katkeiluuns are filter feeders, using their long siphons to draw in water and filter out small particles such as plankton and algae. They are often found in areas with high levels of sedimentation, where they can feed on the abundant nutrients present.

In some cultures, katkeiluuns are considered a valuable resource, with their shells being highly prized for their beauty and rarity. The shells are sometimes used in decorative items such as jewelry, ornaments, and other crafts. However, the harvesting of katkeiluuns for their shells is not always sustainable, and many conservation efforts are in place to protect these species and their habitats.
