Kategorizaci, in Czech usage, refers to the process of categorization—arranging items, ideas, or phenomena into groups (categories) based on shared characteristics or predefined rules. More generally, categorization is a fundamental cognitive and methodological activity that supports understanding, communication, and decision making. It spans disciplines from cognitive science and linguistics to information science and library science.

Approaches in kategorizaci include hierarchical taxonomy, where categories form a tree; faceted or multidimensional categorization, where items can belong to multiple categories along different attributes; and probabilistic or fuzzy methods that admit partial membership. In computing, categorization often translates to classification tasks: supervised learning assigns labels to items, while unsupervised methods group items into clusters without predefined labels. Multi-label classification allows several categories per item.
