Karl Mihkel (born 15 March 1978 in Tallinn, Estonia) is an Estonian computer scientist and software engineer. He earned a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the Tallinn University of Technology in 2000, followed by a master's degree in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Tartu in 2003. Mihkel began his career at the Estonian Research Institute, where he contributed to projects on secure information systems and later served as a lead developer for the national e‑government infrastructure.

In 2008, Mihkel co-founded the cybersecurity firm SecureSoft, which specializes in intrusion detection systems for mid‑sized enterprises. Under his leadership, the company developed the Sentinel Suite, a modular platform that integrates machine‑learning algorithms with traditional rule‑based firewalls. The product was recognized in 2012 by the European Cybersecurity Awards as an innovative solution for protecting critical data. Mihkel also holds several patents related to adaptive threat mitigation and distributed ledger security protocols.

Beyond his entrepreneurial ventures, Karl Mihkel is active in the academic community. He has published papers on machine‑learning models for anomaly detection in arXiv and the Journal of Applied Cybernetics. He frequently speaks at international conferences such as the RSA Conference and the Nordic Security Forum. Mihkel serves on the advisory board of the Estonian Cyber Protection Centre and mentors students through the Tallinn University of Technology’s cybersecurity research laboratory.
