Karelanpiirakka
Karelanpiirakka, also known as Karelian pie, is a traditional Finnish pastry originating from the Karelia region. It is a savory tart with a thin rye crust filled with rice porridge or mashed potatoes. The crust is typically made from rye flour, water, and salt, and it is rolled out very thinly. The filling is then spread onto the crust, and the edges are folded inwards, creating a characteristic boat or crescent shape. After baking, the pies are often brushed with melted butter or a mixture of milk and butter.
Karelanpiirakka is commonly served as a snack or appetizer, often accompanied by egg butter (munavoi), a spread
