Kappalevärjäys

Kappalevärjäys, also known as dyeing, is the process of adding color to a material, such as fabric, paper, or wood, through the use of dyes. The term "kappale" in Finnish translates to "piece," reflecting the application of dye to individual items rather than bulk materials. This method is particularly common in textile dyeing, where dyes are applied to garments, home textiles, and other fabric-based products.

The dyeing process involves several steps. First, the material is prepared by cleaning and soaking it in a dye bath, which is a solution containing the dye. The temperature, time, and concentration of the dye bath are carefully controlled to achieve the desired color and depth. After dyeing, the material is rinsed to remove excess dye and then dried.

Kappalevärjäys can be done using various types of dyes, including natural dyes derived from plants, synthetic dyes, and reactive dyes.
