Kapeakäytävävarastot, also known as narrow aisle warehouses, are a type of industrial storage facility designed to maximize vertical space utilization. The primary characteristic of these warehouses is their extremely narrow aisles, which significantly reduce the floor space dedicated to circulation. This allows for a greater number of shelving units and thus a higher storage capacity within the same building footprint compared to traditional wide-aisle warehouses.

To operate effectively in these confined spaces, specialized material handling equipment is required. Reach trucks, very narrow aisle (VNA) trucks, and turret trucks are commonly employed. These machines are designed to navigate the narrow aisles and lift loads to considerable heights, often exceeding 10 meters. Their operation demands highly skilled operators and precise maneuvering capabilities.

The layout of a kapeakäytävävarasto is typically optimized for efficient product flow and order picking. Storage racks are usually high-density systems, such as selective racking or double-deep racking, to further enhance storage capacity. The reduction in aisle width means that fewer operators can work simultaneously in the warehouse, which can affect throughput speed if not managed properly.
