Kaheksajalgade

Kaheksajalgade is a term in Estonian that translates to "octopus." Octopuses are fascinating marine mollusks belonging to the order Octopoda. They are renowned for their eight limbs, which are actually arms lined with suckers, used for locomotion, capturing prey, and sensory perception. These intelligent invertebrates are found in all the world's oceans, from shallow coastal waters to the deep sea.

One of the most distinctive features of an octopus is its soft, unboned body, which allows it to squeeze through incredibly tight spaces. They possess remarkable camouflage abilities, able to change both the color and texture of their skin to blend seamlessly with their surroundings, making them adept hunters and evaders of predators. Their diet typically consists of crustaceans, mollusks, and fish.

Octopuses have a complex nervous system, with a significant portion of their neurons located in their arms, allowing each arm to act somewhat independently. They are known for their problem-solving skills and ability to learn, exhibiting behaviors that suggest a high level of intelligence. Reproduction in octopuses is often a final act for both males and females, with the female typically guarding her eggs until they hatch and dying shortly after.
