Kõrgsagedusheli, also known as ultrasound, refers to sound waves with frequencies higher than the upper audible limit of human hearing. This limit is generally considered to be around 20 kilohertz (kHz). While humans cannot consciously perceive these sounds, they are present in various natural and artificial environments.

The generation of high-frequency sound can occur through mechanical vibrations, electrical signals converted by transducers, or phenomena like cavitation. In nature, bats and dolphins use ultrasound for echolocation, navigating their surroundings and finding prey by emitting high-frequency pulses and interpreting the returning echoes. Insects also produce and detect ultrasonic frequencies for communication and predator avoidance.

Industrially and technologically, high-frequency sound has numerous applications. Medical ultrasound, for instance, is a non-invasive imaging technique used to visualize internal body structures, monitor fetal development, and guide medical procedures. In industry, it's employed for non-destructive testing of materials to detect flaws, for cleaning delicate objects through ultrasonic cleaning, and in sonar systems for underwater detection. High-frequency sound is also utilized in pest control and in some types of distance measurement devices. The study and application of high-frequency sound fall under the field of ultrasonics.
